When charging a product/part to a client using a ticket, our technicians need to have the ability to enter whatever text they want in the Item and Price field. Currently, the only way to do this is to create a new part for each sale, but this will quickly become unmanageable.

Is there a way to open these fields to be completely freeform?

Thanks for posting Dwain. No, we agree with you and this definitely not how the system should be used.

Items is selected from existing Items list, that is customizable. The 'text' you refer to should be typed into the Charge Description field. This is a free text field that you can type anything you want in any length that you want.

So, in theory, one could use a single Item, call it "Product" and once selected you simply type anything you want in the Description field and that's it.

In real life, you may want to use Items for parts and products you commonly use.
The reason for this is once an Item is selected from the drop down the Description text is auto populated, saving you the time typing the description text manually. In addition, when the Item is select the Item price is automatically set based on the Item price, and possibly on special Custom Pricing rules set to the customer.

To sum this up - you don't need to create a new Item each time but rather type the text in the Description field.

Hope this helps.
