Hello, I saw in an earlier post that you should use "Block of Money" contracts for MSP clients. Our contracts last one year in some cases and others such as BDRs are sold on a three year contract. In all cases we want to make sure we are keeping track of our hours so we can know what our profitability is.

The second part of this question is, when something falls outside the contract scope and is billable, do you just simply check the box to bill the specific ticket?

For tracking hours you may consider using Block of Time contracts where you can configure the Block amount, the start/end dates. Labor Charges against this Contract becomes Not Billable automatically and hours are reduced from the block.

When the block is exceeded, the system warns the user and the charge can be marked as billable or the user can select another contract for the Charge.

More information about using Block of Time/Money Contracts can be found on our Wiki:

Contracts

Hope this helps.

It does not help because our MSP contracts are not based on Block of time. They are unlimited support calls for a specific period of time. We want to:

1) Keep track of time spent on these contracts so we have some idea as to how much they cost us.

2) Bill to the customer anything outside of the contract scope using CommitCRM

We have no intention of going to block of time.

Hey Greg,

We are an MSP and also so unlimited hours. What they are saying is that you use a "block of time" contract type in CommitCRM to enable the kind of tracking usage that you want. It doesn't mean you have to actually bill for a "block of time" - you can bill per device / site or whatever - that will all be controlled via the contract price tab under the contract.

Make sense?
