year end reports

Is there a report for year end sales by items? Or any year end reports at all?

Any Charge based reports in the system can be filtered to show any period of time. So yes, you can filter the reports to only include data from 01/01/2011 to 12/31/2011 and the results will only affect performance related to 2011. Besides reports, you can also find very interesting statistics under the Statistics Board (you can add many more items in addition to the ones displayed by default). Filter the date to reflect 2011 data as well.

can I add my own defined items to the statistic line displays to be able to show the items I want to see? If so how do I do this?

By default the Statistics Board display only a predefined set of items that can be expanded by selecting many of the other available stats accessible when clicking 'Settings' link of the Statistics Board. While you cannot add completely new items you can add items from the many predefined ones that are not displayed by default.
