    Heirarchical Assets Structure

    Greetings,

Is there any way to set up a hierarchical assets structure, so one can accomodate systems as well as individual components of a system? In our field, we normall sell, say, an audiovisual SYSTEM to a client. that system is composed of a number of individual, serial numbered components. Mostly, customers have no idea which part of a system is has failed, causing the fault, and simply report that the system is not working.

It would be good to be able to track tickets against individual components of a system, but also be able to look at the system asset and see all the tickes logged againt any of its components...

    Re: Heirarchical Assets Structure

I think that the same applies to Servers with components like disk arrays you want to manage as a separate Asset.

While there isn't a built in support for this yet you should consider using the Custom Fields option. With it you will be able to create a new data field that will be part of the main Asset record. This field can be used to hold a link to a selected Asset (the Parent Asset).

Hope this helps and thanks for your feedback.
