Customized fields and upgrades

I have customized some new fields in my system, how does the system handle this when I upgrade my version? Does it keep all my changes including new fields and those I renamed?

I already upgraded once and it keeps everything as far as I know. I did not try adding new fields, but I renamed a few fields and everything stayed the same after the upgrade.

Yes, all customization is saved when you upgrade. This includes renaming fields, adding new tabs and new fields, adding new values to lists and also reports customization.
