Which item type would you consider hosting services (web, backup, monitoring, etc)? I'm sure this is just a technicality, but would hate to setup tons of these just to learn it reports differently down the road and I wish I'd have known.

Service? Product/Part?

Thanks.

I don't think that there's a definite answer for this...

You can use a fixed priced service/labor item or a fixed price part item.

It probably depends on the nature of what you sell - if you sell the service - i.e. you ask customers to pay for you to monitor their web site, manage the server it is hosted on etc. then a service/labor item probably fits better.

It is also possible that your customers will prefer that you'll use a service/labor item for this, as usually they will be able to use it entirely as an expense for the same financial year (i.e. pay less tax). In any case, you may want to consult this with your accountant.
