Nick Lloyd from Sirona Solutions Ltd (www.sironasolutions.com) has just posted an interesting blog post about how to configure Exchange 2007 to allow RangerMSP Server (Email Connector / Alerts) to send, receive and relay email messages.

The blog post explains how to solve the following error:
AUTH CRAM-MD5
504 5.7.4 Unrecognized authentication type
AUTH LOGIN
RequestDone Rq=11 Error=504 5.7.4 Unrecognized authentication type

Thanks Nick!

I followed the instructions to the letter. While I can now send email to internal addresses (those within my company), I am still unable to send to users outside my company.

Thoughts?

(error below)

> MAIL FROM:<REDACTED@atlantec.biz>
< 250 2.1.0 Sender OK
RequestDone Rq=2 Error=0
> RCPT TO:<REDACTED@gmail.com>
< 550 5.7.1 Unable to relay
RequestDone Rq=4 Error=550 5.7.1 Unable to relay
Error, Application Stopped

Hi Ben_Atlantec, please note that when it comes to the Email Connector, the relay option is required in order to send emails from an external email address. Sending to external email addresses doesn't require the relay option in this case, only the appropriate privileges on your mail server. If you have problems sending to external addresses, I would check the security settings for the account you are using for outgoing emails.

I hope this helps.
